Music

Gabrielle is a recent graduate of Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music Studies (Composition), and her portfolio is jam-packed with chamber, solo, electroacoustic, ensemble, choral and improvised works. A prolific poet, her poetry often finds its way into her music, and she enjoys collaborating with fellow composers, performers and interdisciplinary artists. She holds an AMusA in flute performance from the AMEB and is also an experienced performer of new music.

Gabrielle is a founding member and the current President of Konzertprojekt, a new music collective of Sydney Conservatorium students and graduates which curates live and online music events of chamber, electroacoustic and interdisciplinary music, composed and performed by emerging artists. Konzertprojekt’s Light Qualities series was featured in Vivid Sydney in 2019.

Gabrielle’s music has been performed by youth and student ensembles including Gondwana Voices, Sydney Youth Orchestras’ Symphonic Wind Orchestra, the Sydney Conservatorium Modern Music Ensemble and Newcastle Youth Orchestra. In 2017, she participated in the Sydney Chamber Opera Composition Masterclass, where her work Morning Song was workshopped and recorded by professional musicians. In 2018, she performed Echo for poetry and solo flute at Extended Play New Music Festival alongside fellow student composers from Sydney Conservatorium. This work, described as “a refreshing departure from the aesthetic of many solo flute works”, also received an Honourable Mention in the Flute New Music Consortium’s Composition Competition in the same year. Her first commissioned work was published in Fluteworthy’s Ensemble Workbook in 2019. Gabrielle was a featured artist for hiberNATION Festival of the lo-fi in 2020, composing for Ensemble Offspring percussionist Bree Van Reyk and improvising flute music in response to her favourite poems. In 2021, she looks forward to composing a new work for Ensemble Offspring to be workshopped and premiered at Hatched Academy Composer School.
