Gabrielle Cadenhead (1998) is a poet, composer and educator who works on Gadigal land. Much of her practice explores the relationships between creativity, community and spirituality, and she enjoys collaborating with others. Gabrielle recently completed undergraduate degrees in English Literature, Religion and Composition at the University of Sydney and Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
A founding member of Konzertprojekt, Gabrielle is the current President of this new music collective which curates live and online music events. She has composed for Vivid Sydney, Fluteworthy, Gondwana Choirs, Sydney Chamber Opera musicians, the Sydney Conservatorium Modern Music Ensemble, and Sydney and Newcastle Youth Orchestras. In 2018, she performed Echo for poetry and solo flute at Extended Play New Music Festival, a work which also received an Honourable Mention in the Flute New Music Consortium’s Composition Competition in the same year.
Gabrielle’s poetry and fiction have been published in student journals including ARNA, 1978 and the University of Sydney Student Anthology. In 2020 she was a poetry sub-editor for ARNA and the founding editor of the Epworth House Zine, and her journalism can be found in CutCommon and Insights Magazines.
Gabrielle has taught flute privately for four years and was awarded an AMusA in flute performance by the AMEB in 2020. She also offers creative writing and composition workshops on a freelance basis.
Gabrielle is currently planning upcoming projects with Konzertprojekt and working on a collection of poems that investigates the relationship between intersectional feminism and faith. She looks forward to participating in Ensemble Offspring's Hatched Composer Summer School later this year.
